Nate Thompson Driver Profile
Nate Thompson is an ambitious and competitive 16-year-old go-kart racer from Townsville, North Queensland.
When Nate is not studying at Ryan Catholic College or helping at his family’s small business, he is honing his craft on the track. Nate takes pride in helping other younger racers and can be seen at his local track coaching his peers, along with his sister.
Nate is also fortunate to be part of the professional SONIC Motor Racing Services Porsche team, working trackside as a hard-earned member of their incredible crew competing in the Carrera Cup and Michelin Sprint Series.

Nate’s team is a true Thompson family affair, proudly competing out of their custom built trailer at local events. Whether it’s lending a hand to fellow racers or helping Nate’s Sister Charlize join in on the action, our weekends are built on teamwork. Behind it all, Nate’s parents provide unwavering dedication and support, from kart setup to post-race debriefs that drive constant improvement.
Midway through the 2024 season we upgraded to an Energy Corse Racing Kart, and in 2025 we officially joined their National team to compete in the Australian Karting Championships AKC.
Over the last few seasons, Nate has discovered a passion for coaching younger drivers. When he’s not racing, Nate is regularly at the local tracks helping younger drivers develop their skills and reach new milestones.

Our team is a true family affair, proudly competing out of our custom-built trailer at local events. Whether it’s my sister joining the action or lending a hand to fellow racers, our weekends are all about teamwork. My parents’ dedication and support are the backbone of my success, from kart setup to post-race debriefs.
This year, I’ve also discovered a passion for coaching younger drivers. Helping them develop their skills and reach new milestones has been an incredibly rewarding experience.

Nate has been privileged to have Marcos Flack, current Sonic Motor Racing Porsche driver as his driver coach and mentor since midway through the 2024 season. Marcos supports Nate’s development with the Energy Corse Australia racing team.
Marcos’ expertise as a champion racer across multiple categories around the world has played a pivotal role in Nate’s growth. His guidance has elevated Nate’s racecraft, confidence and overall performance and Nate is excited to continue learning from Marcos in 2026 and beyond.

Marcos’ expertise as a champion racer has been instrumental in my progress. His guidance has elevated my performance and I’m excited to continue learning from him into 2025.

Go-karting has provided Nate Thompson with lifelong friendships and unforgettable experiences. After achieving his 2024 goals, including becoming the Queensland State Cup Champion, 2025 was all about stepping up into the senior category and competing in the Australian Karting Championship for the first time which a perfect platform heading into 2026.
After achieving most of his goals racing the local scene in 2025, Nate is now aiming even higher. Nate’s objective is to compete at the highest level, secure podium finishes and to demonstrate his skills on the national stage. With the support of Marcos Flack, Team Energy Australia and his family, Nate is prepared to take new challenges ahead.
